Guardiola Sings Folden’s Praises After Man City Win
Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, labelled Phil Foden as the “best player in the [English] Premier League right now” after he helped the club defeat Manchester United yesterday, Sunday 3 March.
The Citizens hosted their neighbours at Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England with a slew of international names expected to appear.
Despite the odds being stacked against them, the Red Devils claimed the first goal just eight minutes after the starting whistle, when midfielder Marcus Rashford made a right-footed strike from over 20 metres out.
The hosts were only able to level the score after the half-time break, as midfielder Foden saw an opportunity at the 56-minute mark and was able to find the back of the net with help from his teammate, Rodri.
A second opportunity for Foden arrived at the 80th minute, as his colleague forward Julián Álvarez passed him the ball, giving Foden his brace.
One minute into overtime, Man City striker Erling Haaland wrapped up the derby by earning a third and final point for his side, bringing the scoreboard to 3-1.
During the post-match press conference, Guardiola was quick to praise his star player, calling Foden’s performance in the match “unbelievable”.
